What is Art?
The term ' art' is an expression and application of human creative skill and imagination, feelings, thoughts, ideas or any other human creativity, in a visual form, having aesthetic and emotional value. It includes the seven genres of art namely painting, sculpture, literature, architecture, cinema, music, theater.
We will start with a brief description of three of the genres:
Painting:
Painting is the process of applying paint, or another medium, to a solid surface. It is an important form of visual art. The artist paints on a surface that is mostly a stretched linen, cotton canvas, or wooden panel. The art is two-dimensional. Some of the most popular types of painting mediums include oil painting, watercolor painting and acrylic painting.
Sculpture:
Unlike painting, sculpture is physically presented in the three-dimensional art work. A sculpture is most often produced using materials such as marble, wood, copper, or bronze. It is one of the plastic arts. Four main techniques exist in sculpting: carving, assembling, modeling, and casting. Modern technologies have changed and enhanced the work of sculpture.
Architecture:
Architecture is the art and method of building and designing structures with an artistic element. It is a type of fine art commonly known as the “high arts”. Architectural monuments are a testament to particular periods of time, connect us to past eras, reflect cultural symbols and they are works of grand achievements. Throughout the ages, architecture has had the ability to send powerful messages, influence beliefs, one's spirituality.
